RYA Sailability (Royal Yachting Association – UK) is a leading authority on disabled sailing and in the Spring of 2009, DOSCachieved RYA Sailability recognition through the hard work and dedication of the sailing team and volunteers. DOSC Sailability is one of a few very select overseas centres to hold this status and to achieve affiliation.
The Sailability program is primarily supported by DOSC and is run entirely by volunteers. Sailability relies heavily on donations and support from individuals, small businesses and corporations across the UAE for the purchase of equipment, boats, training materials and school educational visits.
Sailing is a sport that allows people with disabilities to achieve independence and a real sense of self-worth, by being freed from the problems of mobility and other issues that they face on land. Through sailing, students gain in confidence and self esteem.
