Click on our RACE CALENDAR for an insight into the season’s events.

DINGHY RACING

Our competing fleets include Optimists, Lasers, Open Dinghy and Pico’s.  The major events in the season are the Dinghy

Commodore’s Cup, Laser League and the Winter and Spring Regattas.  There are also seven rounds of UAE National Championships which DOSC’s sailors regularly compete in, sometimes sending more than 20 sailors to a race!  See the descriptions below for more details on these events.  The club also runs Start Racing workshops available to people who have completed their RYA Level 2 and are keen to get involved in Dinghy Racing.

KEELBOAT RACING

SpringRegatta1

Most Keelboat races at DOSC operate using the IRC Rating System (Southern Hemisphere) allowing fair and competitive racing

for all. There are 3 IRC Divisions and 1 club class for the Commodores Cup series. (see event details below)

We also offer our now famous annual Winter and Spring Regattas, as well as a number of offshore races like the  Dubai – Muscat and Bill Nelson Memorial Race.  It’s not all serious though, with our weekly evening pursuit race, shorthand round the world series, various offshore rallies, Boxing Day ladies’ helm and of course to finish off every season, the annual Commodore’s Regatta.

If you are looking to crew on a boat, please join the DOSC Race Crew FaceBook Page, which is where we direct Skippers looking for crew.

Racing Events

THE COMMODORE’S CUP

The DOSC Commodore’s Cup is arguably the most fiercely contested and competitive event in the DOSC calendar. The season runs from September to May usually comprising of 8-10 rounds, which each lasts a day.  The Keelboat Commodore’s Cup is a combination of short inshore races and long day races of up to around 30 miles.  The Dinghy Commodore’s Cup consists of a laser and optimist fleet, and the SB20 & Open Dinghy Commodore’s cup is for our SB20 fleet and all open dinghies, using the Portsmith Yardstick as the handicap.

THE DUBAI – MUSCAT RACE

Jumeirah Regatta

One of the most prestigious races in the DOSC Calendar and is exactly what it claims, a race from Dubai, UAE to Muscat, Oman. Sailing up the West Coast of the UAE to the Straights of Hormuz where boats often face the fierce currents on the ebb or the flow between the Gulf and Arabian Sea with the magnificent scenery of the Musandam Peninsular as their backdrop.  Then comes the offshore leg bypassing the UAE East Coast and into Muscat. The race takes approximately three days to complete.

THE BILL NELSON MEMORIAL RACE

Another popular long distance offshore races, held in memory of the Late Captain Bill Nelson, long standing DOSC members, Dubai resident and and harbour master for the Creek. The course usually incorporates part of Abu Dhabi and Sir Abu Nair Island and lasts aproximately 2-3 days.

UAE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Open to invited dinghy sailors, this series tours the UAE with events in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Kaimah.  The main fleets are Optimist, Laser and Open Dinghy.

LASER LEAGUE

Initially held between DOSC and the old Jebel Ali Sailing Club, this event has grown from strength to strength in recent years and is without doubt the main Laser Sailing Series in Dubai, although now exclusively held at DOSC.

SHORTHANDED ROUND THE WORLD SERIES

The brainchild of Phil Roper, this is a “fun” self-regulated series where competitors sail around the World Islands with a maximum of 2 crew!
